American Art Gallery specializes in contemporary and traditional two and three dimensional work. We feature paintings, sculpture, and fine works on copper. Nationally, internationally known and emerging artists are represented. American Art Gallery's vision is in pursuit of culture. We work to bring together the artist and the patron. Art can be wonderfully decorative; however it is the wonderful expressive nature of art that we represent.
Sometimes our daily lives lead us to put our souls to bed. We tend to tuck all of the mysteries of our lives away to deal with later. Art and the artist beg us to expose our souls to the light of day and to the dark of night. Each time we push back the covers and our souls leave the secure haven of our own making, we encounter life. The invitation comes from music, poetry, literature, film, and art. The American Art Gallery represents artists who make that invitation.Address:

Gillette Portrait Arts is owned and operated by Raye Gillette-Whaley. Having recently moved from Boulder, Colorado to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Raye opened her Snow Hill studio in September of 2003. The mission of Gillette Portrait Arts is to bring a different approach to traditional portraiture ~ to capture spontaneity in everyday events and to bring an artistic eye to special, once in a lifetime occasions. A graduate from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Raye defines her style as Fine Art Portraiture. Whether photographing a wedding, a child’s birthday party or a portrait in a more formal studio setting, the goal remains the same: to capture imagery full of interest, emotion and of a timeless quality. The dark placid waters of he PocomokeRiver swirl gently behind the pontoon boat, “Journey” as she penetrates the river’s dense forest, following its twisted path. Overhead, eagles and osprey circle. Cormorants dive; herons and egrets wait patiently in the shallows for an innocent fish to come too close and turtles as big as dinner plates bask on logs. Largemouth bass break the surface. The banks are lined with native flowers and everywhere the majestic bald cypresses – the river’s signature trees – shade the black water.
Enjoy a cruise aboard the “Journey” and marvel at the beauty of the Eastern Shore’s most precious and well-preserved river. Operating daily May 1 – November 1 on Saturdays, Sundays and evenings Monday – Friday a ride on the Journey will cool its cruisers off on the hottest of summer days.Jerry Nolte has his Captain’s license and will take you up river from the Snow Hill drawbridge to the great cypress tree. A typical cruise lasts approximately 2 hours. Down river cruises to PocomokeCityDiscoveryCenterMuseum or to the PocomokeRiverState Park at Shad landing are also available by request.Cruises leave from the dock at SnowHillGatewayPark, located next door to the Pocomoke River Canoe Company on River Street. You will find plenty of parking in the Green Street parking lot next to SturgisGatewayPark.Reservations are required.
Makemie is a church filled with good people, warm regards, and the vital spirit of the Lord. Come and see. Makemie is a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) which believes that all are created equally in God’s image: the sovereignty of God; the authority of scripture; and that our relationship with Jesus Christ is being formed and reformed each day. We believe that while some folk complain that god put thorns on roses, we praise God for putting roses on thorns. We believe that love is the powerful force that no matter how lost you are, you are never lost to God.Our worship hour is 11 a.m. every Sunday and a nursery is provided. Sunday School (adults and children_ is at 9:30 a.m. and snack time (coffee, juice, home-baked goodies is at 10:30 a.m. Our choir sings each Sunday, lad by Pat Cottingham and we welcome new voices. Choir meets at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. Our current sanctuary’s cornerstone was set on June 29, 1890. Link here to see “A brief history of Makemie Memorial Presbyterian Church”. (www.makemie.com) The doors to our sanctuary are open and we invite you to visit and sit in the beauty and quiet of this house of God.

The Mt. Zion One Room School House, now located on Ironshire Street was built in 1869 near Whiton and used as a school until 1931. It stood empty until Dr. Paul Cooper, Superintendent of Schools, had the building moved to Snow Hill. It was opened to the public in 1964 and has since demonstrated to students and visitors how their forebears were taught in the days of one room schools.
Donations of 19th century texts and furnishings make a visit to the school a leap back in time. McGuffy readers, quill pens, inkwells slates and a water bucket are in place just as if the students had been dismissed yesterday.
